Accepted on many toll highways and bridges in states across the eastern U.S. coast, Virginia E-Z Pass transponders save commuters valuable time and money.

Virginia commuters can benefit from applying for the E-Z Pass transponder (after all, commuters can same time and money at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel simply by using the E-Z Pass device). The Virginia Department of Transportation makes it easy for commuters to obtain the device by offering four ways to apply.

Before applying, for the E-Z Pass transponder, Virginia commuters must decide whether to sign up for a personal or business account.

  • Personal E-Z Pass accounts are for individuals who own or lease cars, trucks, vans, RVs and motorcycles. Motorcycle owners should be aware that although they can obtain E-Z Pass transponders for motorcycles, the transponder is designed for an angled mount that works best with vehicles. While it may work on a motorcycle, achieving the proper angle might be tricky. Therefore, the Virginia Department of Transportation wants motorcycle owners to understand that they are mounting the device at their “own risk and liability .”
  • Commercial E-Z Pass accounts are for businesses that register their vehicles in the business name and/or own vehicles that weigh in excess of 7000 pounds in gross vehicle weight and/or operate vehicles with more than two axles.
