Any tips to add from your travels, on how to stay in touch with the world from your treks to Nepal, beaches in Thailand, cafes in Vienna or via camel back?

I've been able to find computer connections in coffeeshops around the world. I am afraid to bring my own laptop on global trips, though.

These days, I find it's pretty easy to stay in touch in other countries, as cyber cafes (which didn't take off too much here in the States) are prolific.

When camping, even if I don't have Internet, I bring the laptop to watch DVDs (and get a tent site with electricity)... nothing like going to sleep to M*A*S*H in a tent in the Pyrenees Mountains! Heheh.

Yeah, Dan and I took a week long camping trip in Joshua Tree National Park and we used his laptop to watch many, many episodes of the new Battlestar Galactica from our tent. FUN! (we are now officially addicted to that show).

Anyway, I know what you mean, Kelby. happy

Yeah, I know some will argue about the purity of the outdoors... but I love having a good TV show DVD for camping. Hehehe. When we first moved to France (and French TV is AWFUL!!!!), my mother-in-law sent is the second season of ER and we got so hooked! Oh, Band of Brothers on DVD is another good one... although maybe too long for vegging before bed in a tent.

Oh, and I know Joshua Tree!!! I used to live in the Mojave Desert (Victorville)...

Well, I bring my laptop everwhere and in large cities I am normally able to find places with wireless access. I increase my wireless connection strength with a Wi-Fire. It is small, easy to use and has a speedy connection soI can send pictures and do what I need to when I am out traveling in minimal wireless connected areas. I think you can find it if you search "hfield" via google. I hope that helps!
