» Feature Writer Joni Rose - Love this topic!

Hi Dan,

I am a new writer here as well and just discovered your topic. As a training and development professional, traveling is part and parcel of the work I do. I thought I'd share some of the things I've learned on the road - who knows - it may spark an article idea! Ha!

1. Get great carry-on luggage. I invested in a Hays Office on Wheels which is a lap top case plus a carry on bag with many pockets/sections for files and other office supplies. It is a God send! Not only do I look sharp in the airport, but I can quickly grab the smaller lap top case for working on the plane and store the one on wheels in the overhead compartment.
2. Check a bag. I have learned that trying to take it all in a carry-on is simply a pain! You end up having an overstuffed carry on or you are so limited in what you can bring that it makes anything longer than a 3 day trip frustrating. I have learned to pack essentials in a carry-on and then check a large suitcase with clothes. What a difference it made to the experience!
3. Use the airport or airplane to clean-up your desktop computer or blackberry. It is my favorite time to delete and file emails, sort folders for out-of-date file to delete etc. You don't need an internet connection or power if your battery is charged up! Guess how I voted in your poll!
4. Dollar stores are great places to find travel accessories like mesh laundry bags, soap holders, small plastic bottles, pencil cases etc. I bought a small fishing tackle box and put a small sampling of clips, elastics, small sticky notes etc.

I am sure I have more ideas but these are the ones off the top of my head.

Good luck!

Joni

Hi Joni. I linked this thread into my blog here, where I discussed these poll results. I am still planning out articles based on your cool ideas above as well. In fact, my newest poll about luggage, is based off what you said above.
