» Feature Writer Jennifer W. Miner - Free Continental Breakfasts

While I unfortuately have never been able to pass up a high-carb breakfast (even embarrassingly, an ALL-carb one), my older kid decided at some point that she doesn't like bread. When we were staying at a hotel called the Shangri-La, she was only momentarily perturbed to discover that the free continental breafast was bagels, toast, or danish. She managed to pass on these and made do (quite contentedly) with eating the little jellies and butters. Hence our new expression, "Free Condimental Breakfast." happy What clever ways do ADULT lo-carbers have to avoid the pitfalls of bagel/toast/danish offerings?

well, Jellies are pure carb.sad But butters are okay. That's pretty cute about the condimental breakfast!

I just have to make sure there are things I can eat (milk, coffee, tea, eggs...or bring my own low carb bread or tortillas, cheese and whatever.

If there are options I don't WANT to eat high carb stuff - sugar gets me too antsy after all this time low-carbing.

"Free Condimental Breakfast." Hey, that IS pretty funny!

I don't count carbs but I do try to eat wholesome foods and sometimes take my own wholegrain cereal when I'm traveling. You can always get milk and fruit to go with it. I really prefer soymilk but that's hard to find. Taking your own bread is a good idea too. I do happen to like hard boiled eggs though. happy

traveling and eating healthy is always a challenge. All the convenience stores have plenty o' junk to choose from. Not so much fresh stuff. They are slowly learing, as are fast food outlets, but it's still waaay to easy to succumb to junk and and grease and starchy carbs and sugar laden food on the road.

I've had a few people ask me to run a low fat hotel article to go with the low carb one. So I will get on that soon! happy

Okay, here it is:

Hotels and Low Fat Diets

Thanks for the ideas, folks. Joy, do you want to write me a guest article for vegetarians?

Hi Joy. Dan just posted your article on Vegetarian Travel Dining. Very cool. it's a great addition to the topic.

Here is the post: http://businesstravel.suite101.com/artic...

I'm surprised sometimes how many people there are that combine diets, like low-carb and low fat, or veggie and low fat. I think the hardest would be low carb and veggie, and anyone who does BOTH has my deepest sympathies! happy

I don't think I could handle it...those two are almost opposed. I guess it could do done, with a LOT of veggies...
